Refurbished MacBook Buying Guide NZ: Air vs Pro
Share
A refurbished MacBook is one of the smartest tech purchases in New Zealand — Macs age slowly, hold their build quality, and macOS support runs for many years. The question is which one.
MacBook Air: the default choice
For study, browsing, documents and video calls, the Air does everything with zero fan noise. The M1 Air (2020) remains a legend: silent, all-day battery, and handles photo editing without complaint. If your budget is tighter, Intel Airs (2018–2020) cost even less and are still perfectly capable for everyday tasks.
MacBook Pro: for sustained heavy work
Video editing, large code builds, music production — the Pro's fans and extra performance headroom earn their keep when work runs hot for hours. A refurbished 2018–2020 13" Pro is a lot of computer for the money.
What to check
- Battery health — listed on our units; laptop batteries are pricier to replace than phone ones.
- Storage: 256GB minimum if it's your main machine.
- Condition grade: a "Good" grade MacBook usually just means faint keyboard shine or lid marks — see the Condition Guide.
