13-inch vs 14/16-inch
Intel-era MacBook Pro came in 13-inch and 15/16-inch sizes. Early Apple Silicon Pro models (M1/M2) kept the same 13-inch design as the Intel Pro, Touch Bar included; the redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch models (M1 Pro/M1 Max chips onwards) added a notch, a brighter mini-LED display and more ports (HDMI, SD card, MagSafe). If your day-to-day work is browsing, documents and streaming rather than sustained creative or technical workloads, our MacBook Air range does the same job for less money and less weight. Apple's own chips brought a major jump in speed and battery life, and macOS support for Intel Macs is winding down. For genuinely heavy workloads — video editing, large compiles, music production — an Apple Silicon Pro (especially a Pro or Max chip) is the strongest long-term buy; an Intel Pro still makes a capable machine for lighter professional use at a lower price. How much RAM and storage?
16GB RAM is a comfortable minimum for Pro-level multitasking and creative apps; step up to 32GB or more for heavy video editing or large datasets. 512GB storage suits most users, more if you keep large media libraries locally.
