Frequently asked questions

What happens to my data?
Every device is fully erased to NIST 800-88 standard as the first step of inspection, before anything else happens. Still, always back up and sign out of your accounts before shipping.
What if my device isn't as described?
If inspection finds a different condition, we email you a revised offer with photos. Accept it, or we ship your device back free. If you don't respond within 14 days, the revised offer is accepted automatically.
How long does the whole process take?
Typically 7–12 days: label within 1 business day, 2–4 days in transit, inspection within 2 business days of arrival, then payment in 3–5 business days (store credit is issued the day inspection clears).
Can I trade in more than one device?
Yes — quote each device separately and ship them together with both confirmation numbers in the box. Each is inspected and paid individually.
My model isn't listed. Will you still buy it?
Probably — email us a photo and the model number and we'll quote it manually within one business day. Anything we can't buy, we'll recycle for free.
Do I need to include the charger or box?
No — just the device. Don't include accessories, SIM or memory cards; extras can't be returned.
Can I sell a device that still has finance owing on it?
No. If the device is still on a payment plan or a carrier contract, or it has been reported lost or stolen, we can't legally resell it, so the quote is NZ$0 — the same as a device we can't unlock. Clear the finance or have the loss report lifted first and we'll quote it then.
What happens if I forget to sign out of iCloud or my Google account?
An active account lock means we legally cannot resell the device, so it has no trade value. Turn off Find My and sign out of iCloud, or sign out of your Google and Samsung accounts, before you ship. If inspection finds a lock still on, we email you a revised offer — accept it, or ask us to send the device back free. No response within 14 days accepts the revised offer automatically.
Who are EcoLoop — are you a real New Zealand company?
Yes. EcoLoop has been trading since 2018, when it opened as Sunnyway Tech's North Shore branch, and we refurbish, sell and buy back devices from our Auckland workshop at 13D Paul Matthews Road, Rosedale, Auckland 0632. Email [email protected] and a person answers. Every trade-in gets a confirmation number and its own dashboard link you can check at any time.
Will you still buy it if the screen is cracked or it won't turn on?
A cracked or dented device is still worth money — it is simply quoted at a lower grade, and the quote tool prices that for you before you commit. A device that won't power on has no trade value, because we can't verify it or certify the data erase; we'll still recycle it free if you'd like to send it in.
What if my device is lost or damaged in the post?
The prepaid label is tracked from the moment you hand the parcel over, so there is a record of it in the courier's network — keep your drop-off receipt. A parcel lost or damaged in transit is the courier's responsibility, and we take it up with them for you: tell us through your Trade Dashboard or by replying to any of our emails, and we deal with the courier and keep you posted until it is sorted. You don't have to chase them yourself.
Can I drop my device off instead of posting it?
Yes — choose drop-off when you get your quote and bring it to 13D Paul Matthews Road, Rosedale, Auckland 0632 during business hours. We inspect it while you wait, so there is no courier leg and no waiting on a label. From anywhere else in NZ the prepaid courier label is free.
What if your prices change after I get my quote?
They don't affect you. We snapshot the price the moment you submit, and your quote is locked for 14 days — later changes to our price list can't move it. Ship it within 14 days and the only thing that can change the number is what we find at inspection.
